Hi, my name is Stefan and this site is about composting and conserving resources. I am a Master Composter and a small business owner doing what I can to reduce the amount of waste my family generates and sends to the landfill. If you are trying to do your part to reduce the waste you are sending to the landfill, composting is super easy, inexpensive and it is fun! Really, it is fun and it is very rewarding to use your own compost in your garden.
How I became obsessed with rotten stuff
When me and my wife purchased our first house here in Mint Hill, NC in 2003, I quickly became interested in gardening. The yard in our new (to us) house had been neglected for many years so it became a pretty big challenge with all the work that needed to be done including fighting this rock hard red clay we have here. We also had large trees that dropped a ton of leaves every fall and all the neighbors’ leaves seemed to make it over the fence into our yard. While preparing our flowerbeds, I bought compost in bags at Home Depot (I made many trips) to amend the soil and give the plants a chance to develop some roots and retain the expensive city water I used to water them. I quickly realized that with all the kitchen waste we just sent to the landfill and with all the leaves we had in the fall, I could easily make my own compost, save some money, and help the landfill people out at the same time.
My obsession turned into a business
In 2007, I decided to start an online retail company that sells composters, rain water barrels, non-gasoline lawn mowers and reusable products, and so, BareGreen, Inc. was born. www.baregreen.com is our main store but, if you are here, you are probably interested in composting, so check out BareGreen, Inc.’s composting department for great ideas, tips to get started, and different types of composters to meet your lifestyle. There are lots of choices available.
My business enables me to volunteer in my local community
In the summer of 2010, I obtained training and knowledge to become a Master Composter through the McPlant Master Composter Volunteer Program based in Charlotte, North Carolina. I met a great group of dedicated and enthusiastic people! If you are interested in composting and are willing to conduct volunteer work in community gardens and teach composting classes and demonstrations, I strongly recommend that you investigate if there is a Master Composter program in your area.
Enjoy the compost information pages and blogs. If you have any questions about composting or think I should add something please contact me.
Happy Composting
