May 2-8, 2010 is International Compost Awareness week, and these are some events planned for the Charlotte, NC area.
Sunday May 2nd is the kick off. To celebrate people are welcomed to come out to the Little Sugar Creek Garden, on the corner of 17th and Alexander Street from 12p-2p for a brief sharing of ideas on the benefits of composting and how to get the County as a whole more involved. Wednesday May 5th is a drop-in lunch and share moment on composting and vermicomposting techniques and ideas from 12-2 at Little Sugar Creek garden (Call Nadine at 704 201 2201 or 704 432 1970 for more information)
Thursday May 6th LUNCH AND LEARN UPTOWN: Urban Ministry Center, 945 N College Street, Charlotte, NC 28206. 12 – 1 PM. Guerrilla gardening and compost bags: growing food and beauty in the heart of the city. Talk and sharing circle on new approaches to urban greening lead by Don Boekelheide, Erin Cheever, and the gardeners from the Urban Ministry Program. Saturday May 8th is a compost and landscape workshop from 9a-1p at McDowell Nature Center, 15222 York Rd. RSVP by Thursday May 6th by calling 704 588 5224.
All events are free and open to the public. For health and sanitation reasons, no pets are allowed in the gardens. For safety reasons, all children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
